Koshoi Korgon is located in At Bashi rayon of Naryn oblast. To the South from the village ofKara-Suu and to the West of the At Bashi village lie the remains of an ancient settlement, known as Koshoi Korgon.It is named after the "Manas” epic hero Koshoi.
The 5 meter high walls, (in places, they reach a height of 8 meters), are made of pahsa (pugged clay) and stretch for more than 1000 meters. They were part of the ruins of a small, rectangular citadel dating from sometime between the 10th and 12th centuries and once would have been fortified with towers.
Legend has it that this is where Manas, the legendary
Kyrgyz hero, is supposed to have buried his friend Koshoy. (A "korgon” is an
ancient burial mound.)
Originating from the 8-12 century, three different digging tools have been found around the area towards the bottom of the castle. A lot of relics were found along with weapons that been used to hunt beast, to cook, to dig around the ground and more.
They are stored in the Museum of Ethnology-History " Koshoy-Korgon "
The Folklore Museum and the History of "Koshoy Korgon” museum are located on the Silk Road. It is located 3 km away from the road between Torugaruto Pass.
